Products Description
During the casting process, the compositional content of silicon carbide is critical to controlling the quality and performance of the product. By adjusting the ratio of carbon to silicon in silicon carbide and controlling the content of impurity elements, silicon carbide products with specific properties can be produced. These products can be used as excellent refractory materials, abrasives or additives in the casting process. It can effectively improve the wear resistance, thermal shock resistance and chemical stability of castings.
Silicon Carbide Casting
Ordinary cast iron parts
In ordinary cast iron casting, silicon carbide is used as an inoculant, and its content is generally controlled at 0.5%-2%. For example, in some small grey cast iron parts production, the content of silicon carbide is about 0.8%. This content can effectively improve the graphite morphology and enhance the mechanical properties of castings.
Ductile iron castings
In the casting of ductile iron castings, the content of silicon carbide as spheroidisation promoter and inoculant is usually 1%-3%. In the casting process of large ductile iron pipe, the content of silicon carbide is kept at 1.5%-2.5%. This content helps to improve the spheroidisation rate and enhance the toughness and strength of the castings.
Steel casting
In the cast steel casting field, silicon carbide as a deoxidiser and carbon enhancer, the content of the standard fluctuation range, from 0.5% -5%. In some low alloy steel castings, the silicon carbide content is about 1-2%. In high carbon alloy steel castings, the silicon carbide content may reach 3%-5% to meet specific chemical composition and performance requirements.
Casting Refractories
When silicon carbide is used in foundry refractories, the content varies depending on the type of refractory and the area of use. For example, in silicon carbide insulating refractories, the silicon carbide content can be as high as 70%-90% to ensure that the refractory has good high-temperature performance, erosion resistance and thermal insulation properties.
