China has more than 200 silicon carbide smelting enterprises, with an annual production capacity of more than 2.2 million tons (of which: green silicon carbide block more than 1.2 million tons, black silicon carbide block about 1 million tons). Smelting transformer power is mostly 6300-12500KVA, and the largest smelting transformer is 32000kVA. There are more than 300 sand and powder processing enterprises with an annual production capacity of more than 2 million tons. In 2012, China's silicon carbide capacity utilization rate is less than 45%, about one-third of the smelting enterprises have processing sand powder production lines. Silicon carbide processing sand powder production enterprises are mainly distributed in Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jilin, Heilongjiang and other provinces.

The quality level of black and green silicon carbide raw blocks is also world-class. The gap between China's silicon carbide and the world's advanced level is mainly concentrated in four aspects: first, rarely use large mechanical equipment in the production process, many processes rely on manpower to complete, per capita silicon carbide output is low; Second, in the silicon carbide deep processing products, the quality management of granular sand and powder products is not fine enough. The stability of product quality is not enough: third, the performance indicators of some cutting-edge products have a certain gap compared with similar products in developed countries; Fourth, direct emission of carbon monoxide in the smelting process. Major foreign enterprises have basically realized closed smelting, while China's silicon carbide smelting is almost all open smelting, and carbon monoxide is all direct discharge. In 2012, Chinese enterprises developed a closed smelting technology to achieve full recovery of carbon monoxide, but there is still a long way to go from industry-wide popularization.
