Silicon carbide abrasive powder is an inorganic material which is a light grey powder with a high melting point and high density. Silicon carbide abrasive powder is insoluble in water, ethanol and acids, but can be dissolved in molten alkalis and iron. Silicon carbide powder is made by high temperature smelting of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips and other raw materials. It is used as an abrasive for grinding wheels and abrasives, as well as a deoxidising agent in the metallurgical industry and a modifier of cast iron tissue.
