Silicon Carbide Powder Uses

 

Silicon carbide powder is an inorganic material with the chemical formula SiC. it is a light grey powder with a high melting point and high density. It is insoluble in water, ethanol and acids, but soluble in molten alkalis and iron. Silicon carbide powder is made by pyrometallurgical smelting of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips and other raw materials. In the production of green silicon carbide, table salt is also added. This product should be stored in a cool, dry and ventilated environment, avoiding common storage and transport with inorganic acids and alkalis. It can be used in refractory and metallurgical industries.

 

 

• In the field of electric vehicles, silicon carbide is widely used in charging and electric modules. This simplifies the power supply network system, increases the power supply frequency and reduces the size of the device, thus significantly improving efficiency.
• For new displays, silicon carbide single crystals can be made into LED devices with advantages such as high brightness, long life, high colour rendering index and low energy consumption. Compared with sapphire-based LEDs, the cost of silicon carbide LEDs is reduced by about half, while thermal conductivity is significantly improved.
• In the field of electrocatalysis, silicon carbide can be used as a new type of catalyst for fuel cells, replacing platinum materials. However, silicon carbide still requires in-depth research in terms of controllability and operability.
• In the field of aerospace, it is widely used in the manufacture of aviation engines, and has become an indispensable material by virtue of its light weight, high toughness, high temperature resistance and long life.
• In the field of non-ferrous metallurgy, silicon carbide is also widely used for its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It can not only be used as a refractory material in metallurgical equipment linings, but also in high-intensity wear applications such as mechanical seals and device nozzles.
