Oxygen removal principle:

The silicon element (Si) in ferrosilicon has an extremely strong combining ability with the oxygen (O) in the steel water, and reacts to generate silicon dioxide (SiO₂), so as to remove the free oxygen in the steel water.

Key Role:

• Prevent the formation of oxides due to excessive oxygen content in steel solidification, avoiding defects such as porosity and porosity in steel.
• Reduces the 'secondary oxidation' of molten steel and ensures the surface quality and internal properties of the billet or steel.

 

Alloy additives

Adjust the chemical composition of steel:

Add ferrosilicon to steel according to different steel requirements, making silicon an alloying element of steel.

Effect on steel properties:

• Silicon solidly dissolves in ferrite, producing a solid solution strengthening effect that enhances the strength and hardness of the steel.
• Silicon promotes the formation and distribution of carbides in steel, enhancing the durability of steel in abrasive environments.
• In silicon steel, silicon content can reach 1% to 4.5%, which significantly reduces iron loss and increases magnetic permeability, making it a core material for transformer cores, motor stators and other electromagnetic equipment.

 

Production of special steel grades

Stainless steel smelting:

Ferrosilicon can be used as a reducing agent to reduce chromium ore in electric furnace steelmaking, while regulating the silicon content in steel and improving the steel's oxidation resistance and processing performance.

Tool & Mould Steels:

Adding silicon can improve the tempering stability and wear resistance of the steel, which is suitable for manufacturing cutting tools, stamping moulds and so on.
