Ferro Silicon Chemical Composition

 

 

Content range:

Silicon content is usually between 40%-95%, is the core element of ferrosilicon, determines its use, such as steelmaking deoxidation, alloy additives.

Role:

Ferrosilicon is added to the steelmaking process as a deoxidising agent. Silicon reacts with oxygen to form silica, which reduces the oxygen content in the steel and improves the properties of the steel.

Ferrosilicon is added to steel as an alloying element to improve the strength, hardness and wear resistance of steel.

 

 

Content:

Iron and silicon form the matrix of ferrosilicon alloy.

Role:

Iron as a carrier, so that silicon can be evenly added to the steel smelting process, while iron itself is the main component of steel.

 

 

Aluminium (Al):

Source: raw materials (silica, coke) or smelting process to bring in, an excess will affect the deoxidation efficiency of ferrosilicon, and may lead to an increase in inclusions in the steel.

Control: High purity ferrosilicon requires an aluminium content of less than 1.0%.

Calcium (Ca):

Source: impurities in silica (such as CaO) or limestone in the reducing agent, excessive calcium will increase the melting point of ferrosilicon, affecting the performance.

Carbon (C):

Source: coke reductant residue during smelting, excessive carbon content will lead to carbonisation of the steel, affecting the quality of the steel.

Phosphorus (P), sulfur (S):

Source: impurities in raw materials, is a harmful element in steel, need to be strictly controlled.
