The raw materials for producing ferro silicon include quartz, coke, and steel scrap. The smelting process is carried out in a submerged arc furnace at high temperatures, usually exceeding 1600°C. Strict control of the raw material ratio is essential-excessive coke can lead to a reduction in silicon content, while insufficient steel scrap may affect alloy formation.

• Silicon Content: Common ferrosilicon grades include FeSi15, FeSi45, FeSi75, and FeSi90. The appropriate grade should be selected based on specific process requirements.
• Form: Ferrosilicon is typically in lump or granular form. It should be free from excessive powder, caking, or moisture.
• Appearance: High-quality ferrosilicon has a silver-gray surface with a dense, pore-free, and slag-free fracture. A darkened color or signs of rust may indicate improper storage or oxidation.
• Manufacturer Capability: If custom specifications are needed, confirm whether the supplier offers services such as particle size processing or customized packaging-for example, crushing ferrosilicon into 10–50 mm pieces or producing powder. Additionally, inquire about after-sales support, such as return/exchange policies and technical assistance.
• Packaging: Moisture-resistant packaging, such as sealed bags or jumbo bags, is essential to prevent oxidation during transportation. For bulk transport, ensure the vehicle is dry and free from corrosive residues.
