Silicon And Manganese

Silicon is also an effective stoning medium, which turns the carbon in cast iron into free stoning carbon. Silicon can be added to standard gray cast iron and ductile iron up to 4%. And large amounts of manganese and silicon are added to steel in the form of ferroalloys: ferromanganese, silicomanganese and ferrosilicon.

The main components are silicon and manganese. Silicon is very stable, gray-black, metallic luster, hard and brittle, high melting point (1410 ℃), is a good semiconductor material. Manganese is gray-white metal, hard and brittle, melting point 1244 ° C, boiling point of 2097 ° C, with deoxygenation, desulfurization and regulation (such as preventing the formation of steel grain-edge carbide), but also to increase the strength of steel, toughness, hardenability. The two are fused together in a piece of both the nature of silicon and manganese.
