Product Introduction

Product Features

Extremely high silicon content

This is its most fundamental characteristic, typically ≥87% silicon content, reaching up to 95% or higher.

01

Extremely low carbon content

Due to the extremely high silicon content, carbon has very low solubility in it, resulting in an extremely low carbon content in high-silicon ferrosilicon. This makes it indispensable in applications requiring ultra-low carbon content.

02

High brittleness

The alloy's brittleness increases with rising silicon content, making high-silicon ferrosilicon extremely brittle and easier to break into smaller pieces for use.

03

Higher melting point

Silicon's melting point exceeds that of iron, resulting in a higher melting point for high-silicon ferrosilicon than standard ferrosilicon, typically above 1300°C.

04

Differences from Ordinary Ferrosilicon

We compare it with the most common FeSi75:

Characteristics High-Silicon Ferrosilicon (e.g., FeSi90) Standard Ferrosilicon (e.g., FeSi75)
Silicon Content High (≥87%) Medium (72%-80%)
Carbon Content Ultra-Low (<0.05%) Low (<0.1%)
Core Applications Metal reducing agent (e.g., magnesium smelting), chemical silicon source Steelmaking deoxidizer, alloying element additive
Market Positioning Targeted at specific chemical and non-ferrous metallurgy industries Targeted at general and special steel industries, with massive consumption
Price Typically higher (due to high silicon content and high production energy consumption) Relatively low, classified as a commodity

Primary Uses and Production Methods

The applications of high-silicon ferrosilicon are primarily concentrated in two fields: metallurgical reducing agents and chemical industry raw materials. This differs significantly from ordinary ferrosilicon, which is mainly used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking.

1. Metallurgical Field: As a Reducing Agent

Due to its strong reducing capacity, high-silicon ferrosilicon is widely used in the smelting of certain low-carbon metal alloys.

2. Chemical Industry: As a Silicon Source

High-silicon ferrosilicon serves as a vital base material for producing various silicon-based chemicals.

3. Special Steel and Foundry Industry

When processing these steel grades, using high-silicon ferrosilicon can more efficiently increase the silicon content in molten steel while introducing fewer impurities such as carbon.

Production Method:

Similar to ordinary ferrosilicon, it is produced by reducing silica and iron sources with carbon in an electric arc furnace. However, manufacturing higher-grade ferrosilicon demands stricter control over raw material purity and furnace conditions, while also requiring greater energy consumption.
