Silicon-manganese alloy is a key material in the metallurgical industry. Its core components are manganese and silicon, with the remainder consisting of iron and trace elements such as carbon and phosphorus. This alloy exhibits high hardness, a high melting point, and excellent heat resistance.
Main Applications
Steel Industry:
- Silicon-manganese can be used as a composite deoxidizer, simultaneously removing oxygen and sulfur from molten steel and improving steel purity.
- Silicon-manganese can be used as an alloying additive to significantly enhance the strength, toughness, wear resistance, and thermal stability of steel.
Other Industries:
- In the foundry industry, it can improve the strength and wear resistance of cast iron and is used in aluminum alloy casting.
- In welding rod production, silicon-manganese alloy can be used as a component of the core or coating to add silicon and manganese to the weld. This ensures that the mechanical properties of the weld match those of the base material, improving weld quality.

Raw Materials
The purity and stability of raw materials directly determine the quality of silicon-manganese alloys. We strictly control these indicators during production:
- Manganese ore: Low-phosphorus manganese ore with a manganese content ≥40% and a phosphorus content ≤0.15% is preferred. Phosphorus causes cold brittleness in steel and is a detrimental element to silicon-manganese alloys. Iron content is also controlled to prevent excessive iron from reducing the alloy's purity.
- Silica: The SiO₂ content must be ≥97%, and the minimum amount of impurities such as aluminum oxide and iron oxide is preferred. High-impurity silica increases slag viscosity and affects the efficiency of the reduction reaction.
- Coke: The fixed carbon content must be ≥85%, the ash content ≤15%, and the sulfur content ≤0.7%. Excessive ash content introduces additional impurities and increases slag volume.
- Lime: The effective CaO content must be ≥80%. As a flux, the particle size must be controlled to ensure rapid decomposition and lower the slag melting point.
Raw materials are inspected upon arrival at our silicon-manganese plant. Each batch is analyzed for chemical composition, and unqualified materials are discarded.
