What is the role of manganese in manganese alloy?
Deoxidisation: Manganese has a stronger affinity for oxygen than iron. By adding manganese alloys, such as ferromanganese, to steelmaking, manganese reacts preferentially with the oxygen in the steel to form MnO, which reduces the oxygen content in the steel.
Desulphurisation: Manganese reacts with sulphur to generate manganese sulphide, the melting point of MnS is higher than the temperature of steel, and it precipitates out in the form of solid, so as to reduce the effect of sulphur on the thermal embrittlement of steel.
Improvement of corrosion resistance: adding manganese to stainless steel can partially replace nickel to form Mn-Cr solid solution, which improves the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of the alloy.
Improvement of wear resistance: high manganese steel in the impact load on the surface will occur work hardening, the formation of hard and wear-resistant oxide film, suitable for the manufacture of wear-resistant parts, such as crusher jaws, excavator buckets.
Improve casting performance: Manganese can lower the melting point of ferroalloys, improve liquid metal fluidity and reduce casting defects.
Optimise welding performance: appropriate amount of manganese can inhibit the formation of brittle phase in the weld, improve the strength and toughness of welded joints, but excessive manganese will increase the hardenability, need to be adjusted with other elements (such as silicon).
The main business scope of Dadao is: ferroalloys, metallurgical materials, casting materials, ferrous metals, rare metals, import and export business and so on.
