Product Introduction

What is ferro manganese?

The main components of ferro manganese are iron and manganese, usually containing about 60 per cent manganese and 30 per cent iron, with the rest being impurities. Its common grade is FeMn78C8.0. Ferro manganese can be classified into high carbon ferro manganese, medium carbon ferro manganese, and low carbon ferro manganese according to its carbon content. Ferromanganese is mainly used in the steel making process, it is an excellent deoxidiser and desulphuriser, which can effectively reduce the oxygen and sulphur content in steel. This can substantially improve the quality and purity of steel. In addition, ferromanganese is used in the production of special materials such as manganese copper, manganese aluminium and manganese steel to improve the hardness and strength of the materials.

What is silicomanganese?

The main components of silico manganese are manganese and silicon, with a manganese content of over 65 per cent and a silicon content of between 14 and 16 per cent. Its common grade is SiMn17/65. Silico manganese has the reinforcing effect of manganese and the deoxidising ability of silicon, and the cost is lower than pure ferromanganese. Silicomanganese is mainly used in the manufacture of materials such as steel and stainless steel, where it improves their hardness, strength and corrosion resistance, as well as increasing the life and stability of the steel. Silico-manganese is used as a compound deoxidiser and alloy additive in steel making, it has the advantages of low melting point, large particle size, easy to float and good deoxidising effect.

How to choose ferro manganese and silico manganese

If you need steel with a high manganese content, such as wear-resistant steel, you can choose ferromanganese. It is used to produce steel with high carbon content and can increase the hardness and toughness of the steel. This material is more costly. It is mainly used in the manufacture of special steels, stainless steels, high-speed steels and other alloy steels and materials such as manganese-copper alloys, cast iron and non-ferrous metal alloys.

If you need to deoxidise and add silicon at the same time, you can choose silicomanganese. It is used to produce steel with lower carbon content and can improve the tensile strength and wear resistance of steel. The cost of this material is relatively low. It is suitable for producing wear-resistant steel, cemented carbide, stainless steel, and also widely used in electric power, metallurgy, chemical industry, machinery and other fields.
